grand canyon + horseshoe bend

My lovely friend, Sarah, and I skipped town for the weekend and headed west for a quick camping trip through the Grand Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. Sarah and I met while both living in the midwest and the two of us eventually found ourselves calling Colorado home. She’s become one of my closest friends out here in the Rockies. She’s always up for an adventure and keeps me from possibly falling off a cliff because heights has become lost on me.

We started off our trip arriving late Saturday night to be greeted by some huge elk at our campsite. Once our furry neighbors moved along, we crashed for the evening only to be woken up by a morning storm. After waiting for the storm to break, we hiked through the canyon throughout the day. The views as you get down into the canyon are insane; way more than I can put into words and so very vastly beautiful. We setup camp at Mather grounds outside of the south rim but before we called it a night, we watched the storm roll over the canyon before the last light of the day.

Next morning, we drove to Page, AZ in hopes of hiking the Antelope Slots. Sadly Mother Nature rained us out so we opted to stop by Horseshoe Bend. Trying to avoid the crowds, we hiked around the less trafficked areas of the bend and soaked in all the goodness of Lake Powell below.

A short but sweet trip it was but nevertheless, an amazing experience for the Sarah-squared duo. To the next adventure!
